Hiking in Teno / Pasivaikščiojimas po Teno

May 11, 2013 / by gerda

Yesterday we spent the entire day in the lush shade of the palm trees, reading books, going over the travel plans for the next week and pondering some filosofical ideas that have accumulated in our heads recently. We probably couldn’t have found a more suitable place for reading Masanobu Fukuoka’s excellent book on natural farming “The One-Straw Revolution” – the palm leaves above our head were full of birds, the active lizards were chasing one another through the dry grass, the bee that landed on the table appeared to be doing some sort of a cleansing ritual… Such a variety of amazing things happening all around us! Today however we’re up early and come 9 o’clock we’re off for a hike, hoping to make the most of the cool morning weather before the sun rises above the mountains. This works for only a little while – by the time we’re walking up to Teno Alto, the sun is eagerly frying our backs. There, in a village of under 100 people, we down a quick cortado (coffee with milk served in a small glass) and carry on down the steep mountain trail to Buenavista del Norte. There, we have bocadillios (toasted sandwiches with various fillings, from tuna to ham to minced meat) for lunch and return to the campsite. There’s still plently of time left to read our books in the cosy shade of the palm trees and feel good with today’s achievements. Tomorrow we’re planning to see what lies beyond the mountains in the opposite direction :)

Ech kokia turininga diena! Rytoj norim pažiūrėti, kas slepiasi priešingoje kalnų pusėje :)
